Rackman Center Annual Report 2023 – Women and Family in Israel

The 2023 Rackman Center Annual Report “Women & Family in Israel” has been published, presenting statistical data concerning legal proceedings in family matters over the past 3 years. Highlights include:

  • Gett refusal is significantly more common among men than women (twice as many divorce rulings were made against men from 2020-2022).
  • 76% of divorce files were opened by mutual consent (since 2019) and over 90% resulted in a Gett (religious divorce settlement)
  • Increasing trend in divorce lawsuits filed by women, and a decrease in lawsuits filed by men.
  • Between 2021 and 2022, more divorce cases in which more sanctions were imposed (5.41 sanctions on average per case) ended in divorce, compared with cases in which fewer sanctions were imposed (4.47 on average per case).
  • There has been a significant increase (400% from 2017-2022) in the appointment of legal guardians for minors with legal aid funding.

The 2023 Rackman Center  Annual Report presents important data about divorce proceedings in Israel, based on the monitoring of all 12,144 divorce cases opened from 2019 to the beginning of 2024 (approximately 5 years). The Report includes activity patterns, judicial decisions, and analysis of the outcomes of cases, presenting the most reliable picture of the progression of divorce cases in Israel.
