The Rackman Center’s Annual Conference 2025

Divorce Following Relocation to a Foreign Country: Legal Perspectives

Recent events in Israel and worldwide have driven many families to relocate overseas temporarily or permanently. The challenges of emigration can sometimes exacerbate existing difficulties or cause family breakdown.

• What happens to a divorcing family that moves away from Israel?
• What legal provisions are relevant to the division of property?
• What about the children’s living arrangements?
• Should the laws of Israel apply or the laws of their new country of residence?

The 2025 annual conference of the Ruth & Emanuel Rackman Center for the Advancement of the Status of Women will tackle the various legal questions that arise during the divorce process when family breakdown coincides with relocation.
In the first part of the conference, we will address steps that can be taken in advance, including through making agreements before moving abroad, to protect the rights of the parties in case they encounter a dispute. The second part will focus on after-the-fact aspects and especially on children’s rights.

Lawyers, advocates, social workers and other professionals involved with this issue are invited to attend. Free event in Hebrew, registration required.
