israel commits to sign the istanbul convention

The Rackman center played a key role in leading to the State of Israel’s recently publicized commitment to sign the Council of Europe’s Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (the “Istanbul Convention”).

Justice Minister Gideon Saar and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid have officially announced their intention to act upon Israel’s accession to the Convention.

The ministers attended a special meeting of the Knesset Committee for the Advancement of Women, chaired by MK Aida Toma-Suleiman, dedicated to discussing the subject.

Prof. Ruth Halperin-Kaddari : “This is the OECD of preventing and combating violence against women. The statement of intent to join the Convention is a highly needed change in the paradigm in the painful and bleeding arena of gender – based violence against women and domestic violence.”
