Since the start of 2025, 18 women have been murdered in Israel due to domestic violence. Despite the spike in murder cases, no government discussion on the issue has yet taken place. Emergency situations and wars increase the pressure within the family unit and exacerbate cases of domestic violence and femicide. While Israeli families are in “lockdown” mode during the Iranian attack, thousands of women are confined in so-called “safe spaces” together with their attacker.
We have sent an urgent joint appeal together with Israel’s women’s organizations to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Welfare and the Minister of National Security, demanding immediate action to protect women’s safety, in order to prevent the murder of more women and save the lives of their children.
We request immediate implementation of the following measures:
1. Urgently convening of a government meeting on the alarming rise in domestic femicide.
2. A campaign to raise public awareness, such as television and radio messages alongside the Home Front Command broadcasts, about coping methods and existing support options for situations of domestic violence.
3. Making technological supervision of known offenders more accessible, by encouraging the use of electronic tagging for enforcing restraining orders in domestic violence cases. Appeals from women to various support organizations show that most of them, most of their lawyers, and even many judges are unaware of the option to use this life-saving preventative technology.
Without security at home, the national resilience of Israeli women is compromised. Just as the national security of Israel is in the government’s hands, so too is the personal safety of its female citizens. We demand immediate action to protect the safety of women in Israel.
