The Rackman Center has launched two support groups for women going through divorce proceedings, creating a successful collaboration between the Rackman Center and Bar-Ilan University’s School of Social Work.
During the past year, these groups were opened at the initiative of the Rackman Center and guided by students from the School of Social Work:
1. The “Choosing Life” group is for women who have left abusive relationships, and it is guided by social workers Gitit Yanon and Raya Ofir, who are taking a continuing education course in Group Facilitation.
2. The “Continuing the Journey” group is for women going through separation and divorce processes, and it is guided by Aviva Lasker and Amit Arbiv, third-year undergraduate students studying Social Work.
Through this collaboration, 20 women have participated in the groups and shared feedback that their participation has been a very positive and meaningful experience. We asked them what they felt was the most successful aspect of the group, and received these responses:
– “Group dynamics, ability to share difficulties experienced following divorce, card games, good selection of participants, management of the group by attentive, containing and sensitive facilitators”
– “Listening and sharing, getting inspiration from every woman regardless of where she is in the process, and knowing the different stages one goes through on the way to discovery and growth”
– “Knowing that you are not alone. Getting tools and understanding how not to return to an unhealthy relationship.”
Thank you to the facilitators and Shikma Nitzan Biran and Smadar Fairberg, our partners from the School of Social Work.
