Attorney Shelly Blat Zak, Director of the Rackman Center, was interviewed by Yael Goldman on Radio 102 FM about the Center’s recent activities.
She described a challenging period on several levels:
Family Law Legal Aid Line – The Center is receiving an increasing number of calls from women facing domestic violence. The numbers are expected to rise further following the war.
Public Policy and Legislation Unit – Since 2023, the Center has been actively opposing bills that expand the powers of rabbinical courts, which may harm women.
Domestic Violence Definition Bill – Ahead of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Center emphasizes the importance of defining domestic violence in Israeli law. Currently, the focus is primarily on physical violence. However, domestic violence also includes emotional, economic, verbal abuse, and coercive control. Without a clear definition, many women do not recognize that they are victims, and professionals cannot respond effectively. A clear legal definition is the first step in combating this phenomenon.
The Rackman Center continues to advocate for legal clarity and protection for all women.
